Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Mappey handles, why we handle it, and the choices you have.

1. About this policy

This Privacy Policy applies to the Mappey iOS app, the website at mappey.app, and related services (together, the “Service”). In this policy, “Mappey,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to the provider of the Service.

2. Information we handle

Information you provide

  • Waitlist information. If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address and the date you signed up.
  • Saved-place and trip information. The app lets you save list titles, cities, place names, neighbourhoods, categories, notes, coordinates, visit status, source links, and similar trip details. This information is stored on your device unless you choose to share it.
  • Shared lists. When you create a Mappey sharing link, we receive and host a snapshot containing the list title, city, list centre, place names, neighbourhoods, categories, notes, coordinates, must-visit status, and a technical list identifier. Shared-list snapshots do not include collaborator details, source links, or visited status.
  • Import information. If you import from Google Maps or TikTok, the app processes the link, shared text, public caption or list details, and the places you choose to save. Google Takeout files you select are read on your device.
  • Communications. If you contact us, we receive the information in your message and any details you choose to provide.

Location and notification information

With your permission, the app uses your device’s location to show nearby saved places, estimate distance, and schedule nearby notifications. Your current location is handled by iOS and the app on your device; Mappey does not upload your live location to our servers. Your notification preferences and monitored-place configuration are also stored on your device.

Technical information

When you use the website or open a shared link, our hosting and security providers may automatically process standard request information such as your IP address, browser or device type, requested URL, timestamps, and error or security logs. We do not use advertising trackers or analytics cookies. Strictly necessary technologies may be used to deliver and protect the Service.

3. How we use information

We use information to:

  • provide place saving, importing, sharing, maps, and nearby alerts;
  • operate the waitlist and send launch or early-access updates;
  • maintain, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service;
  • respond to questions and requests; and
  • comply with law and protect Mappey, our users, and others.

We do not sell personal information, use it for cross-context behavioural advertising, or use your saved places to build advertising profiles.

4. When information is shared

  • At your direction. Anyone who has a shared-list link can view the snapshot and import a copy. Treat the link as shareable and avoid including sensitive information in list names or notes.
  • Service providers. We use infrastructure, database, security, and communications providers to run the Service. They may process information only to provide services to us and must protect it to a standard consistent with this policy and applicable law.
  • Apple services. The app uses Apple technologies such as MapKit, Location Services, and notifications. Apple may process map searches, location-related requests, or device information under its own privacy terms.
  • Google Maps and TikTok. If you choose an import feature, the app may request the public Google Maps or TikTok resource you provide. Those services receive the request and handle information under their own terms and privacy policies.
  • Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce our terms, prevent abuse, or protect rights, safety, and security.
  • Business transfers. If Mappey is involved in a merger, financing, acquisition, reorganisation, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards.

5. Storage and retention

  • On-device data remains on your device until you remove it or delete the app, subject to your device backups and operating-system settings.
  • Waitlist information is kept while we operate the waitlist and send relevant launch communications, unless you ask us to delete it. We may keep a minimal suppression record if needed to honour an opt-out.
  • Shared-list snapshots remain available until the link is deleted at your request or the sharing service is discontinued. Cached or backup copies may remain for a limited additional period.
  • Technical logs and communications are retained only as long as reasonably needed for security, support, legal, and operational purposes.

6. Your choices and rights

You can change location and notification permissions in iOS Settings. You can delete or edit saved places and lists in the app. You may also ask us to access, correct, or delete personal information we control, or withdraw consent where applicable.

To leave the waitlist or request deletion of a waitlist record or shared link, email hello@mappey.app. Include the email address or shared-link URL needed to identify the record. We may need to verify your request and may retain information where required or permitted by law.

7. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organisational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International processing

Mappey and its service providers may process information in countries other than the one where you live. Privacy laws in those countries may differ, and lawful authorities may be able to access information under local law. We use appropriate safeguards where required.

9. Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided personal information, please contact us so we can review and delete it where appropriate.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Mappey changes. We will post the revised version here and update the effective date. If a change materially affects how we use personal information, we will provide additional notice when required.
